Benjamin West was a american born painter. he lived from 1738-1820. West's most famous history painting was the Death of General Wolfe painted in 1770.Josiah Wedgwood he lived from 1730-1795. he was an English potter, credited with the industrialization of the manufacture of pottery.

They specialise in pottery manufacturers and related information and they will probably be able to tell you how old it is and what it was used for. They might also be able to recommend who to approach to sell as a lot of old pottery changes hands in that area. Give them all the information about what's on the stamp underneath as well as sending the picture.

They went bust in Jan 09, over a year ago, so I guess "Yes", the recession pushed them over the edge = for years they have existing by selling overpriced 'luxury' items, 'presentation plates' and 'heritage' products, rather than utility ware and I guess the cash-strapped punters just stopped buying fancy plates & goblets .
